Some students may need to apply for a visa (entry card) to study in the UK.

Crest Schools of English is listed on the Department for Education & Skills (DfES) - Register of Providers. For non-EU students applying for a student visa, check by going to the Government Providers Register at: http://www.dfes.gov.uk/providersregister/ and enter Crest Schools of English in the search field

To find out if you will need a visa and to see where your nearest British Embassy or Consulate is, you can visit this website: www.ukvisas.gov.uk. Certain changes in immigration rules for students intending to study in the UK for less than six months are being introduced from 1st September 2007. To see how the introduction of the new Student Visitor Visa on 1st September may affect you please click here.

Visa requirements

The student must be accepted onto a course of study at a bona fide educational institution.
When you register at Crest Schools of English we will send you an invoice for the fees. When we have received payment we will send you a formal letter of acceptance, which you can use to apply for a visa. Crest Schools of English is a British Council accredited school and a member of English UK (formerly ARELS).

The student must follow a daytime course of minimum 15 hours' organised study per week in a single subject or directly related subjects.
You can study full time (15 hours per week), intensive (21 hours per week) or intensive plus (24+ hours per week).
Before you go to an interview with a Visa Officer it is a good idea to think about why you want to study in England, why you chose Crest Schools of English and how learning English will help further your career in your home country .

The student must intend to leave at the end of his/her studies.
It is important you can explain to the Visa Officer why you think English will help you when you go home and how it will further your career in your home country.

If the course is less than 6 months students must be able to pay the full cost of the course, accommodation and living expenses in Britain.
It is important that you show the Visa Officer the Crest Schools of English acceptance letter with the school fees, as well as bank statements from you or your sponsor.
For advice regarding the approximate living expenses in the UK please visit http://www.ukcosa.org.uk/student/living_costs.php.

Full-time students (minimum 15 hours per week) are allowed to work part-time up to 20 hours per week. However, finding work is not certain, so students must be able to pay the full cost of the course, accommodation and living expenses in Britain without the need to earn income.
You will need to prove to the Visa Officer that you have sufficient money to support yourself in the UK and that you are able to pay for food, travel and accommodation. Please click here for approximate living expenses in the UK.

What are the most important points to remember at my interview?
- Make sure you can show sufficient funds to support yourself while you are in the UK
- Make sure you can explain what you plan to do when you arrive home
- The Visa Officer will need to be assured that you will be returning to your own country at the end of your stay in the UK.
