PROOF OF ENGLISH LEVEL FOR VISA APPLICATIONS.

If your Tier 4 sponsor has assessed your qualifications in order to assign your confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS), you must send these qualifications with your visa application.

For each qualification listed, you must provide:

  • the original certificate(s) of qualification
  • the original transcript of results

We will not accept provisional certificates.

Each certificate of qualification must be the original (not a copy), and must clearly show;

  • your name
  • the title of the award
  • the date of the award
  • the name of the awarding institution

Each transcript of results must be the original (not a copy), and must clearly show;

  • your name
  • the academic institution's name
  • the course title
  • confirmation of the award

You will need to know what evidence your Tier 4 sponsor has included on your CAS, so that you can include it with your visa application. You must get this information from your Tier 4 sponsor before you apply for your visa.

If you send a document that is not in English or Welsh in support of your claim for points, this document must be accompanied by a full translation that can be independently verified by the visa issuing authority. The original translation must contain ALL of the following:

  • confirmation from the translator or translation company that it is an accurate translation of the original document
  • the date of translation
  • the full name and signature of the translator or of an authorised official of the translation company
  • the translator or translation company's contact details

If you send a translation of an overseas qualification or award certificate, it will not be considered as a direct translation of the academic level of that award. UK NARIC is used to assess the equivalency of overseas qualifications.

You must show your visa stamp (also known as vignette) in your passport or your identity card at port when you arrive. We advise that you carry the documents you provided with your original application (or copies of them) in your hand luggage, including your confirmation of acceptance for studies reference number (or your original visa letter if you applied before 22 February 2010).
